Did you hear that? That, my friends, was the sound of the American people breathing a sigh of relief. Kristy Lee Cook, American Idol's boot-scootin', chaw spittin' country girl, has finally FINALLY been eliminated from the show. Week after week Kristy has proved that she is no star - from her squawky, uncomfortable performances to her cheesy, pandering song choices. Yet somehow she hung in the competition for a long, long time.
VoteForTheWorst.com has been encouraging their readers to vote for her ever since Danny Noriega was eliminated. Worsters are supposed to have some personality, some chutzpah - at the very least a faux hawk. But all Kristy brought to the table were whiny, pathetic performances and a smug attitude. She even failed at being the worst.
As much as I complain about other singers on this show (namely Carly Smithson), I have to concede that they are at least worthy of the big stage. Not so for Kristy, who should have been voted off the small stage long ago.
Joining her in tonight's excruciatingly long Idol elimination episode were Syesha and Brooke. I would have liked to have seen Carly in the Bottom Three, but gee, I just can't decide who I would trade her for.
Happily, time is running short for the three remaining girls, and perhaps for Jason Castro, unless he can keep his momentum. But I'd rather watch Jason Castro on his WORST night than any of those tedious women on their best night. At least he knows who he is as an artist. Some might argue that Brooke, too, knows herself as an artist, but can you REALLY be considered an artist if you've never watched an R-rated movie? Go kiss a boy, Brooke. Then come back and play some music.
Next week the Idols will be joined by musical theater legend Andrew Lloyd Webber. I'd love to hear David Cook take on "Sunset Boulevard," but I'm hoping like hell that Carly doesn't attempt "Memories." Meow.
