New Misery Science CDFormed in November of 2006 Portland based four piece band, The Misery Science, recently released their self-titled debut effort. The band evokes a power pop, rock, alternative mix in their album. Christian Dyer leads the band on guitar and at the microphone, Andrew Attebery plays bass, Steffanie Beauchamp steps up to the keyboard, and Eric Olson is on drums.
In Salem, fans can pick up the album at Ranch Records located downtown. Keyboardist Beauchamp and lead singer Dyer still reside here in the capitol.
"Our goal with the album is to sell enough on our own to not have to sign to an indie label," Dyer said. "So far our fan reaction is exactly what we were wanting. People hear similarities to other bands yet feel we have a refreshing original sound that does not stay the same throughout our album or live sets."
The Misery Science like to vary the predominant sounds through their songs, going from a melodic piece to a rock- influenced number.
Production was completed by the band. This album was recorded, engineered and mixed by Kevin Hahn at Opal Studios in Portland.
Four of their songs can be previewed on Myspace, such tracks include "Abusive Love Machine," "Again," "Battle of Sexes," and "Cool Like You."
See them perform these and other new songs live July 26 at the Blue Pepper.
The Misery Science CD will be available at all of their shows and online through CD Baby and Amazon.com.
Enjoy a hot Havana night
An evening benefit for the Salem Chamber Orchestra will be held at Cubanisimo Vineyards in West Salem. A Cuban theme will manifest in the music, dancing, and food on July 26 from 6-10 p.m. Xavier Tabera and the Classic Band will perform, making a way for dancers to hit the floor. Attendees are invited to wear colorful and casual attire.
Food provided will feature selections from Bon Appétit. Cubanismio Vineyards, naturally, will provide wines to match the meal of beef marinated in citrus mojo and Havana-style grilled prawns with papaya glaze and fresh, local summer vegetables. To completely authenticate the evening, cigars will be available for purchase.
Through the pillows of smoke and the sounds of music, a limited live auction will take place. A few of the items include an original watercolor painting by local artist Dr. Sam Rouslin, a handcrafted sofa table by Slate Wilson and much more.
To support Salem's sole professional orchestra, tickets may be purchased at their office. Tickets are $600 for a table of eight which will be reserved seating or $75 for individual tickets which will be open seating.
Tickets must be purchased in advance. For more information call (503) 480-1128
