R U RDY? On Wednesday, MySpace will launch the first phase of a redesign of their popular social networking site. The changes are sure to cause its users to say "OMG!". The popular social networking site has been under scrutiny for the current design because of its messy, unstructured layout. On top of the older design problems, users are able to slap on their own creations causing the site to be even more unsightly.
Facebook, which is gaining on MySpace in popularity, has a more conservative layout, forcing its users to stay within certain boundaries on customization. Some suggest that MySpace's redesign was sparked by building rivalry between the two companies.
The navigation of the Web site, as well as the home page, is expected to undergo visual renovations. Also on the list of visual changes is the profile editor, which will make it easier for users to customize their own profiles.
The site's search is also getting a much-needed overhaul. MySpace will make its first contribution to the open-source community by adopting new Web server software. In November of last year, MySpace joined Google's OpenSocial platform, which allows developers to easily develop applications for a number of social networks.
Another feature that will be added is MySpace TV, which will include updated menus and better functionality.
MySpace users will notice improvements more than extreme changes. Navigation may be a bit confusing shortly after the launch, but if it's as intuitive as MySpace programmers hope, it will be easy to figure out. Wednesday's upgrade will more than likely cause problems within the site. Users shouldn't go WTF, but instead count on the fact that MySpace will BRB.
