Neighborhoods around the city will celebrate the 25th Annual National Night Out event on August 5. Last year over 34 million people participated. It is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Salem Police Department and other law enforcement agencies.

The deadline for registering your National Night Out party for a visit by the police department and a mascot is July 25. The application is located at here.
National Night Out provides an opportunity for neighborhoods to get to know one another. Many neighborhoods celebrate with block parties, barbecues, flashlight walks, contests and youth activities. Officers from the Salem Police Department will stop by each party to visit and discuss crime prevention. When planning for the party, remember that closing streets or utilizing a City park requires a permit. However, permit fees are waived for National Night Out and barricades are made available for the event at no cost. For info on permits call (503) 588-6261.

On July 22 at 6:30 p.m. there will be a kick-off party in the courtyard of City Hall for those who have signed up to participate in the event. For more information on National Night Out, contact Christie Rodriguez at (503) 588-6175.
