Change is afoot in downtown Salem.
At Mission Mill Museum Peter MacMillan Booth of Tucson, Ariz., has been appointed Executive Director of Mission Mill Museum, effective August 4.
"We are delighted that Peter will be joining the Mission Mill team as Executive Director. Our search yielded several excellent candidates but the Executive Committee was unanimous in its selection," said Mission Mill Museum Association President Ed Austin.
Booth will replace Maureen Thomas, who left Mission Mill in January after 10 years. Curator Keni Sturgeon has been serving as Interim Executive Director.
Soon Pentacle Theatre also will have a new permanent staff member. According to the folks at the theater, interim general manager Randy Boyd will be appointed as Pentacle's executive director.
Boyd spent one day on Pentacle's board of directors before resigning and taking on the duties of interim manager.
For many years Salem Art Association and Salem Convention and Visitors Assocation have expressed interest in moving closer to the downtown core.
Recently those hopes have resurfaced. Currently SAA is actively pursuing vacant space available in the old Gallagher's building.
SCVA is still searching for a central location, but have scoped out the old Word Garden location as a possibility.
