Oregon Book Awards Author Tour visits the coast in April

Literary Arts is pleased to announce the next events of the 2008 Oregon Book Awards Author Tour, featuring recent Oregon Book Awards honorees. Readings will take place in Astoria on Wednesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. at the Cannery Pier Hotel (No. 10 Basin Street) and in Newport on Thursday, April 24 at 7 p.m. at the Newport Public Library (35 NW Nye Street).

Conversation, book sales and a signing follow each reading. The events are free and open to the public.

Authors appearing in the tour to Astoria and Newport include Tom Blood, Monica Drake, Susan Fletcher and Kristian Williams. Blood is a Portland author, winner in poetry for his first book, "The Sky Position." Drake is also from Portland. She was a finalist for her novel, "Clown Girl." Drake teaches at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Fletcher of Wilsonville was a winner in young adult literature for her book, "Alphabet of Dreams." Fletcher has written nine books for young readers, including "Shadow Spinner," "Walk Across the Sea" and "Dragon's Milk."  Williams was a finalist in general nonfiction for his book, "American Methods: Torture and the Logic of Domination." He is also the author of "Our Enemies in Blue."

The Oregon Book Awards, a program of Literary Arts, are presented annually for the finest accomplishments by Oregon writers who work in genres of poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, drama and young readers literature. The Oregon Book Awards Author Tour brings finalists to public libraries and independent bookstores around the state.
