STUDENT EXHIBITIONS IN AND AROUND THE AREA

At the opening reception for the senior art majors show currently on view at Willamette, artists and students from other disciplines filled the galleries, clearly taking delight in the work created by their cohorts. As the students wrapped up their academic studies, they spent an evening basking in the glow of their own success, surrounded by friends and family who were eager to see the fruits of their creativity.  I overheard one student tell another, "I love seeing all this great work created by my peers." Art has the power to touch and transform all of us and many times that initial transformative power of art is felt in the classroom. This is true for artists as well as for his or her future audience. With this in mind, I urge you to seek out the student exhibitions taking place around the Valley this spring. The enthusiasm and optimism exhibited on the walls and on the faces of those in attendance may renew your own creative spirit.
