Yesterday, the business community came out in droves to participate in Salem Chamber of Commerce's annual Show Biz. This trade show offers booth space for local businesses to show the public the goods and services they provide. It also is a chance for business owners to network with one another and the public.

Salem Monthly and WillametteLive were there handing out papers and providing information to potential advertisers. Other booths included one dedicated to re-electing Mayor Taylor, Fly Salem, Travel Oregon, a few car dealerships, a slew of banks and mortgage companies as well as Internet providers, carpet cleaners, health clubs and other media outlets.

Most of the booths offer some sort of imprinted advertising goodies to give away, such as pens, post-it notes, or balloons. The highlight of the show for some people is the restaurants and caterers who provide food samples. This year sandwiches, freshly cooked meat, chili, chowder, bread, smoothies, chocolate truffles, ice cream, chocolate fondue and many other mouth-watering treats were offered.

Some vendors also give away raffle or prize-drawing tickets for bigger prizes. Others have set up a wheel (ala Wheel of Fortune), which gives patrons instant gratification, often in the form of a water bottle, coffee mug, or in one case even a free movie ticket.

A play area for children is also provided. Show Biz happens every year, usually in early May and is marketed as "Salem's premiere business trade show." According to Salem Chamber of Commerce, around 6,000 consumers participate each year.
