It's been a big month for Kevin Smith. Earlier this month, the chronicle of his daily life, "My Boring Ass Life," was named a NY Times Bestseller. And now he's got a big-name star signed onto his new movie.

"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" is getting a lot of buzz today. Announcements have been made that Seth Rogen of "Knocked Up" and "Superbad" fame will play the tital role of Zack. Miri will be played by Elizabeth Banks, who worked with Rogen in "The 40-year-old-Virgin." Rogen has another connection to Smith who was originally set to write and direct The Green Hornet. After Smith removed himself from the project, Rogen took over.

The story revolves around two platonic friends who decide that the only way to pay off their debt is to make a porno. Throughout their movie-making procedure they discover that there may be more to their relationship. Jason Mewes (the Jay to Smith's Silent Bob) will co-star. Smith's first picture "Clerks" was self-financed from his comic book collection and a lot of credit card debt. One has to wonder if this story is the "what if" scenario if "Clerks" hadn't been sold.

For "Zack and Miri Make a Porno," Smith has teamed up with his long-time producer Scott Mosier. Shooting will begin in January in Pittsburgh. The Weinstein Company, which also distributed "Clerks" and was instrumental in launching Smith's career, will distribute. This year marks the thirteenth year and seventh film that Smith's production company, View Askew, has worked with Bob and Harvey Weinstein.
