Shakespeare outdoors
This year's installment of Oregon State
University's Annual Summer Shakespeare Bard in the Quad production in Corvallis at the Memorial Union Quad brings a twist on Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

This year's play follows its 2006 take on "Romeo and Juliet" and "Much Ado About Nothing" in 2007.

"A MidSummer Night's Dream," like the previous two plays, is adapted and directed by Scott Palmer.
Featuring a cast of more than 18 actors, each will play a recognizable icon from the Silent Film Era, such as Rudolph Valentino, Theda Bara, Fanny Brice, Louise Brookes, Harold Lloyd and, of course, Charlie Chaplin.

Working hard to authenticate the feel and look of silent film, the cast has a  meeting every evening for voice and body training lessons with two to three acting style coaching session with cast member Maggie Chapin each week.

Bard in the Quad will also offer a companion lecture series titled "Designing Shakespeare: The Bard on Film and By Design." Palmer will discuss film adaptation and his own adaptation, among other related topics.

"A MidSummer's Night Dream" will run for a total of three weeks hosting 15 shows. Each show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets prices vary. Tickets can be reserved online at www.bardinthequad.org. A box office in the quad will be open at 7 p.m. on each performance night. For more information or to reserve a ticket, call (541) 737-2784.
