"Thirst Wednesday" will be celebrated today throughout downtown Salem in an attempt to register young voters. The Bus Project, whose missions is to "Engage, educate, and elect," will be at Willamette University and Chemeketa Community College to helping to register voters. Its Web site says that they work to drive votes, drive leaders, and drive change. And yes ... they have a bus. For information on the bus project visit busproject.org.Various venues will host local musicians and artists whose performances and displays will focus on the importance of voting.
"We know how important voting will be in the May primary and we're trying to do what we can to raise awareness and show that participating in democracy can be responsible and fun at the same time," said local coordinator Ross Swartzendruber. "As Emma Goldman so aptly put it,`'If I can't dance, I want no part of your revolution.'"
The Beanery in downtown will host musicians Bo Monro and Breviamor. At Coffee House Café, Kalalock and Moothart will serenade visitors. Cascade Baking Company will play host to Randy Byrnes and the display the artwork of Bree. Singley's Bar and Grill will showcase music by Stillfire. The Space is offering a performance by Solar Powered and art by Will Bragg. Venti's Café is participating by showing Tattoo Art by Don. Straight from New York Pizza is hosting a performance by Jewelia Owens.
All shows associated with Thirst Wednesday begin at 6 p.m. and are free to the public.
Tonight is also Salem's First Wednesday.
