Local winery captures the green
In September, Sokol Blosser Winery was given the Green Award by  Sunset Magazine. The winery was singled out for being a pioneer in  winemaking sustainability. Sokol Blosser Winery farms organically, and received USDA organic certification from Oregon Tilth in 2005. Their tractors run on 50 percent biodiesel and they use unbleached paper for labels and wine boxes. In 2002, Sokol Blosser became the nation's first winery to be awarded the LEED Silver Level Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council for building an underground barrel cellar. For more information on Sokol Blosser's sustainability practices visit www.sokolblosser.com. Sokol Blosser winery is located at 5000 Sokol Blosser Lane, Dundee.

This is the first time that the State Fair has awarded a gold medal to a wine certified as "Organic and No Detectable Sulfites." Amity Vineyards has joined a growing number of wineries throughout the nation that produce organic wines without additional sulfites. For people who have adverse reactions to sulfites these wines are gaining popularity.
