Watching Big Brother: First Eviction

Big first week in the house. Brian and Renny were put on the block. With both  alliances on the rocks, it's hard to see any of them existing much longer. Jerry gained some credibility by putting up Brian, who was cocky about being in control of the house.

Ollie, the preacher's son, went after his alliance at the first sign of getting busted by the girls. It looks as though BB producers already set up a love affair between Ollie and April, but Ollie may have chosen the wrong side to stick with. Dan, the Catholic school teacher, showed that he knows a little bit too much about stiletto heels for his profession. But during his spiel, he got one thing correct: coupling up in the house is a dumb idea.

Brian came out this episode swinging. But his plan to stay was pretty stupid. A puppet show to convince people that he is fun? Angie fell for the plan, and almost took Keesha with her.

The house was really split into two sides: One wanted to get rid of Brian and the other was for keeping him. Usually Big Brother starts out by getting rid of the annoying people -- in this case it would have been Renny. But this season got off to a good strategic start and already people are looking at who is pull whose strings.

Jerry is annoying with the military code mess. He's already the outcast just by being an old guy in a house of beautiful young people. His constant yammer about trusting people because they have military experience pushes him even farther away from the group. Hopefully Jerry can stop feeling guilty over "betrayals" and start playing the game. He knew coming in that he was going to have to lie, whether he's wearing his military hat or not. Time to deal with it, Jerry.

It's not surprising that Brian went home. Pulling strings on the first Head of Household to target people isn't the smartest thing to do. Early on the houseguests should try to keep the targets off their backs. He did the opposite. Regardless, it makes good TV to see a plan fail miserably.

Jesse, the ultra-vain bodybuilder, is the new Head of Household. It will be interesting to see which side he falls on in the next HoH. If he's smart, which is doubtful at this point, he will go with the majority.

Big Brother airs Sunday and Monday at 8 p.m. and Tuesday at 9 p.m. Check back here shortly after each episode for the next edition of "Watching Big Brother."
